Steps to take when picking a number:

  • Take a look at how many tickets are available
  • Consider a band of numbers that you would consider low numbers but not the lowest
  • Pick a number that sits above that band
It is possible that no one would pick the number one ticket, but highly unlikely.
The number of available tickets is likely to influence what they think is a band of low numbers. For example in a competition containing 100 tickets the likely choice of low numbers would be between 10 and 40 while in a competition containing 10,000 tickets that band is likely to drop to between 10 and 3,000 due the increased frequency expected at the lower number range. Likewise in a competition containing 20 tickets the likely band will be between 5 and 15.
